2-day international training course for radiotherapists, medical physicists and MTRs.

We are pleased to host the 3rd ESTRO-/EPTN-Workshop “Paediatric Proton Therapy” next year, on January 16th and 17th, 2025, in Essen, Germany. Under the direction of Prof. Timmermann and the EPTN coordinators, we offer a comprehensive platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience in modern pediatric radiotherapy.

This event is aimed at physicians, medical physicists and radiotherapy technologists who have a particular interest in pediatric radiotherapy and the use of proton therapy.

The workshop covers key aspects of pediatric proton therapy. The focus will be on the clinic and treatment planning, supplemented by advanced proton therapy techniques. Important topics such as morbidity and the risk of secondary carcinomas will also be covered. Another focus will be on quality assurance and re-irradiation as well as practical case discussions that will help participants to deepen their knowledge and discuss specific challenges in everyday clinical practice.

Background

The European Pediatric Tumor Network (EPTN) and the European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO) work closely together to improve the treatment of cancer, especially in children. While the EPTN focuses on interdisciplinary research and the exchange of best practices in pediatric oncology, the ESTRO provides a platform for expertise in the field of radiotherapy and oncology.

Through joint workshops and events, such as the upcoming ESTRO/EPTN workshop on paediatric proton therapy, both organizations combine their expertise to inform healthcare professionals about the latest techniques, treatment options and research findings. This collaboration promotes the development of more effective therapies and improves patient care in pediatric oncology.
