Tumour boards
Specialists working together.
What is a tumour board?
To ensure WPE is able to provide you with the best possible cancer treatment, we have doctors from a wide range of specialities all working together. Coordination work takes place in regular conferences in which your individual case and progression data are discussed and presented. These conferences are referred to in medical circles as tumour boards (interdisciplinary conferences).
What specialist disciplines are involved in an interdisciplinary tumour board at WPE?
The composition of our interdisciplinary tumour boards generally depends on your individual medical condition. In the case of tumours, for example, they usually consist of the radiotherapy, nuclear medicine, oncology and surgery disciplines.
Depending on the medical condition, however, other disciplines may be brought in to identify possible treatment alternatives and recommendations – for the best possible tumour treatment.
Possible other specialisms:
- Haemato-oncology (for cancers involving the blood)
- Endocrinology (for cancers involving the hormone production organs, e.g. the thyroid gland)
- Urology (for prostate cancer)
- Ophthalmology (for cancers of the eye)
- etc.
